Feeding the Hungry – Living Our Motto of Christian Charity
The Hibernian Hunger Project is a nationwide initiative of the Ancient Order of Hibernians dedicated to fighting hunger in our communities. Its mission is deeply rooted in our Irish heritage and our shared memory of An Gorta Mór—The Great Hunger of 1845–1852—which claimed the lives of over a million Irish men, women, and children and forced millions more to emigrate. That tragedy left a lasting imprint on the Irish people, instilling a profound compassion for those who face hunger and hardship today.
Through the Hibernian Hunger Project, AOH divisions across the United States support local food banks, soup kitchens, and outreach programs to ensure no one is left behind.
Our Work Here in Wake County
In Wake County, our division proudly carries this mission forward each November with our Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive and Turkey Roundup. This effort brings together our members, families, and friends to help make the holiday season brighter for neighbors in need.
Each year, we collect more than 50 turkeys—along with all the traditional Thanksgiving fixings—and deliver them to the New Bern House, a transitional housing program serving families and individuals in Raleigh. These meals help ensure that everyone, regardless of circumstance, can gather around a table for a warm and proper holiday meal.

Why It Matters
For us, this is more than a seasonal charity—it is a reflection of our commitment to Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity. The faces we meet, the gratitude we share, and the dignity we hope to restore remind us that small acts of kindness can make a lasting difference.
How You Can Help
Whether you contribute food, make a monetary donation, or lend a hand in collection and delivery, your support is vital. Together, we can continue to bring hope, comfort, and nourishment to our community.
